The Ho-Chunk people were once caretakers of more than 10 million acres of land in Wisconsin and Illinois. And today, the Ho-Chunk Nation continues to emphasize "green" values.
Both through example and through educational efforts, the Ho-Chunk Nation is working hard to stress the importance of being green, to preserve our state's natural resources for future generations.
Anne Thundercloud, spokeswoman for the Ho-Chunk Nation, explains, "We'd like to advocate for social change. Our own Ho-Chunk teachings prescribe our roles in society, but it's important we all make an effort to go green, because today's it's everybody's responsibility."
The Ho-Chunk Nation will sponsor a series of "green" public service announcements over the next several months, offering viewers tips and ideas on how to "live green" in their day-to-day lives.
