Ho-Chunk Nation: Building Relationships
2009-03-23

The Ho-Chunk Nation is working to build stronger relationships with Wisconsin law enforcement units.

Recently, the Nation donated funds toward a new squad car for the Juneau County Sheriff's Department.

And Juneau County is just one of many law enforcement units in the state that have cooperative agreements with the Ho-Chunk Nation, according to Carson Funmaker, Chairman of the Ho-Chunk Nation law enforcement commission.

Funmaker said, "The cooperation between the county and the tribe to share information, procedures and process is to establish some kind of common ground."

Jason Graves, Native American liaison officer with the Juneau County Sheriff's Department, says the donation toward the new squad car has had a positive impact on the community.

"Everyone is happy about the donation," says Deputy Graves. "Everyone is starting realize there is a good partnership between the Sheriff's Department and the Ho-Chunk Nation and we're all trying to work together to provide a safer community."
