April is awareness month for three important topics that touch many lives: alcohol abuse, sexual assault and child abuse. So the Ho-Chunk Nation is doing its part to bring attention to these critical issues.
The Nation is holding its first "Walk for Awareness" event next week to help community members understand that these issues affect every neighborhood.
Katie Funmaker, Ho-Chunk Nation's 'Walk for Awareness' coordinator said, "It's to raise awareness in the community about alcohol abuse, sexual assault and child abuse. These affect every community and we want to make people aware that and even though they are swept under the rug sometimes that these things still occur. We want people to make people aware."
The Ho-Chunk Nation's many health initiatives are focused on prevention and by bringing awareness to alcohol abuse, sexual assault and child abuse, the Nation hopes to help the community limit these abuses.
